Exploring flavour dynamics

Easter is already behind us and spring is in full swing – high time for our packed April outturn.

The latest bottling from the Small Batch Series, an Irish whiskey created in collaboration with the team at Dunville’s Irish Whiskey, would have been the perfect dram for St Patrick’s Day. Well, it’s still a lot of fun in April and it’s also worth remembering that it’s incredibly difficult to get hold of matured Irish single malts these days. As members of the Society, we are very lucky to be able to enjoy such a rare bottling.

In line with this year’s focus on whisky and sherry, we took the opportunity to introduce you to this Spanish wine under the title “So, what is sherry?”. If you don’t just want to enjoy dry theory, then I recommend the two iconic wines from Bodegas Tradición – an Oloroso and a Pedro Ximénez. If you feel like it, you can order these together with our whisky until the end of June.

True fact – Bodegas Tradición was also my first point of contact with the Society. In 2014, Ina Kraan contacted me because, after a visit to Jerez de la Frontera, she was looking for exactly these sherries for the then Members Room in Schönenwerd. The resulting contact brought me into the picture when Ina Kraan and Brad Richards started thinking about the successor to the Society in Switzerland in 2017. Everything else is already history.

I hope you enjoy reading this and wish all those who have made plans to travel to Scotland for whisky festivals in May much anticipation and unforgettable experiences.

Sláinte!
Patric Lutz
