Speculation about an adjustment to the flavour profiles had been circulating for some time. Now speculation has become fact! The profiles have been refined and the 12 current profiles have been reduced to 8. The age-based profiles ‘Young and lively’ and ‘Old and dignified’ have been removed and the peaty profiles now say more about the different peat styles.
The profile is now also printed on each bottle – a request that many members have made in the past. I am convinced that our flavour-based classification has now become even simpler and clearer.
We will be adding the new and old profiles online; accordingly, you will need to set a filter for the old and new profiles if, for example, you are a fan of ‘Deep, rich and dried fruits’ (old) and ‘Dried fruits and spices’ (new).
This year’s Gathering bottling 79.13: Darling, I’ve made toast was already presented at our September tastings. This year, I selected a cask together with three other franchise partners of the Society. If you are familiar with vexillology, you will find out on the label which four countries shared this cask.
In addition to this innovation, we will be presenting the latest series of Collectors Creation: Peat Plants II. In contrast to Peat Plants I, which presented different types of peat, Peat Plants II focuses more on the medicinal heart of peated island whiskies.
Another discovery worth making is Batch 33: Scrumptious!. This is the first time the whisky team has experimented with former Calvados casks. A 17-year-old whisky from the Lowlands that is perfect for autumn.
On 24th and 25th October, we look forward to seeing Olaf Meier again. He will be joining us at The Swiss Whisky Festival in Baden and will be conducting a guided tasting on Saturday evening.
The current Outturn also contains all the information about our Burns Supper with Robin Laing in January and all tasting dates until May 2026.
And finally, we suggest a few wonderful gift ideas for your loved ones. You can now order the whisky calendar – as a gift or for yourself. As always, shipping will take place in the second half of November.
Enjoy reading and discovering.
Cheers!
